Rested and Ready

We were surprisingly able to get some rest and sleep until 1:30 pm Delhi time despite stray dogs barking, crazy drivers honking, and the occasional unknown boom (we're hoping it was just a power surge). Although, our room is on the small side we are thankful that we are all together. Upon waking up we met two other girls (Riley and Ky) who will be joining us for the rotation. They are both undergraduate students from Oregon. We also met John, the student who had just completed his two week rotation and is leaving tomorrow.

Our house host, Ache Lal, made us lunch which consisted of lentil soup, cabbage with potatos, and rice. The soup was really good! After lunch John disappeared so the rest of us spent time getting to know one another and playing Uno. Once John finally reappeared he gave us all the ins and outs regarding the rotation and things to do in Delhi. He showed us this amazing roof patio and more importantly showed us how to work the shower (we all desparately needed it). Speaking of the shower it was actually better than expected. It was a combination of a real shower head and a bucket but I'm just happy there was actually hot water.

After showering we ate dinner which consited of lentil soup (again-still delicious), potatoes and cauliflower, nan, and rice. We then watched Hindi music videos on the television while trying to guess what the songs were about while waiting for Hema (the program director) to come and give us an orientation. Before orientation started another girl named Anna showed up and will also be joining us. Orientation ended around 10:30pm and we all went to sleep. Ache lal informed us he was going to cook a traditional breakfast for us in the morning so we wanted to be well rested.

Due to our circadiam rhythms still being messed up we woke up at 5 in the morning and started trying to guess what a traditional breakfast would consist of- only two indian meals in and I'm already missing eggs and cereal. We jokingly said we could use syrup and pretend that the nan was pancakes. Luckily, our thoughts of food subsided and we were able to get a few more hours of sleep- now to figure out what a traditional breakfast consists of...
